Read the opening

From chapter 1, "The Missing Chapter". Every guide is written like a story, with real research behind it.

Tuesday, 6:30pm. Jide's cousin Ronke's house. She teaches biology. A pile of marking on the table.

Ronke was 35, with round glasses and the voice of someone who had explained photosynthesis nine thousand times. Jide had come over to borrow a drill and somehow ended up asking her a question that had been bothering him for weeks.

"Ronke, when you teach reproduction, do you teach the clitoris?"

She laughed, then stopped laughing. "Honestly? Our textbook barely shows it. A dot. A label, maybe. The penis gets a full cross-section diagram with arrows. The clitoris gets a dot."

"Why?"

"Because the people who wrote the textbooks did not think it mattered."

JideAmara. The clitoris is a DOT in the school textbook.
AmaraI KNOW. I am furious. Did you know one famous edition of Gray's Anatomy, the most famous anatomy book in the world, dropped the label for the clitoris in the 1940s?
JideThey... unlabelled it?
AmaraThey unlabelled it, Jide. The full 3D structure was only properly described in 1998. By a woman. Helen O'Connell, an Australian urologist, who basically said, "Excuse me, you have all been drawing this wrong for a hundred years."
JideI need to go for a run.
AmaraIt is raining.
