From chapter 1, "Two Beers for Courage". Every guide is written like a story, with real research behind it.
Thursday, 9:10pm. The Car Park Sessions. Jide does something he has never done: he sits in the camping chair, and asks Uncle Bayo to hold the marker.
"Tonight," Jide said, "I am the one confessing."
The car park sat up. Jide never confessed. Jide asked questions.
"When Tolu and I started dating, I was nervous about sex. Very nervous. So I always had two beers first. Sometimes three. It made me feel relaxed. Brave. And for a while I thought that was the answer." He paused. "Then one night, after three beers, nothing worked. Nothing. I was embarrassed. I blamed myself. And the next time, I drank more, to calm down about the last time."
The car park was completely silent.
"Tolu sat me down," Jide said. "She said, 'You do not need the beer. You need to talk to me about why you are nervous.' She was right. The beer was not courage. It was a way of avoiding the real conversation."
