Thursday, 9:00pm. The petrol station car park. The same spot where it started. This time there are eighty people, fairy lights strung between two lamp posts, and a table of food.
Jide stood by the old whiteboard, the same one with the wobbly leg and the faint ghost of PARTY JOLLOF still visible in one corner. It was the last official Car Park Session.
Eighty people had come. The regulars and their partners. Uncle Bayo in his camping chair, Aunty Bisi beside him. Dapo and Nkechi. Femi with two coolers of brown-rice jollof. Kayode and Bisola. Chidi and Adaora (Chidi's hands, for once, were completely clean). Obinna and Chiamaka. Kunle and Funmi. Bolu and Temi with baby Ife. Dele and Chioma, in matching red. Segun and Lola. Wale and Folake. Kelechi and Ada. Sola and Tope. Tayo and his new Kemi. Ade, alone but smiling. Big Emeka and his wife. Chief Lanre. Dr Okafor, Mrs Okoro with the knitted pelvis, Madam Grace with her shea butter, Dr Adebayo with his neat notebook.
And Amara and Emeka, with Adaeze, now walking, holding onto Emeka's finger.
Tolu stood near the front, in her nurse's scrubs, straight from a shift.
"Tonight," said Jide, "is a science lesson. The science of male pleasure. Everything we have talked about for fifty books, in one place."
"And jollof?" asked Dapo.
"And jollof," said Jide. "After the science."
