Saturday, 1:00pm. A bright, friendly wellness boutique. Kemi is standing outside. She has been standing outside for ten minutes.

The shop looked like a skincare store: white shelves, soft lighting, plants, and a cheerful assistant with pink hair who had seen every kind of nervous customer. Kemi was still on the pavement, pretending to look at her phone.

"Kemi," Amara said. "Come in. Nobody here is judging you."

"What if someone from my school sees me?"

"Then they are in here too, and you can both pretend you did not see each other."

Kemi laughed, took a deep breath and walked in. Within five minutes she was chatting with the assistant like they were old friends.
