From chapter 1, ""I Do Not Recognise Myself"". Every guide is written like a story, with real research behind it.
Sunday, 2:00pm. Aunty Bisi's dining room. Egusi soup, pounded yam, and a sudden silence.
Aunty Bisi was usually the calmest person in any room, a primary school headmistress with neat braids and an unhurried voice. But lately she had been snapping at Uncle Bayo, forgetting words mid-sentence and waking at 3am drenched in sweat. At lunch, when Jide asked how she was, she put down her spoon and said:
"Honestly, my son? I do not recognise myself anymore. I cry for no reason. I forget my own sister's phone number. My periods come every two weeks, then disappear for two months. My joints ache like an old woman. And I am angry. All the time. At everything. I think I am going mad."
Uncle Bayo, who had learned a lot in the past year, reached over and held her hand. "You are not going mad," he said quietly. "Jide, tell her what you told me."
