From chapter 1, "The Bathroom at the Christening". Every guide is written like a story, with real research behind it.
Sunday, 2:30pm. A family christening. Jollof, speeches and a cousin missing for twenty minutes.
Amara found Chiamaka in the upstairs bathroom, sitting on the closed toilet lid in her beautiful blue lace, mascara running. Chiamaka was 24, a pharmacy student, the baby of the family, and had been glowing at her wedding three months ago. She was not glowing now.
"Chiamaka. What is wrong? Talk to me."
For a long moment, she just shook her head. Then it came out in a rush. "It hurts. Every time. With Obinna. Since the wedding night. Like burning. Like something tearing. Mummy said the first few times hurt and then it gets better. It has been three months. It is not better. I think something is wrong with me. I think he will leave me."
Amara sat down on the edge of the bath and held both of her cousin's hands.
"Nothing is wrong with you as a person. But something might be happening in your body that needs a doctor. And sex should not hurt. Not the first time, not the hundredth."
